Materials back to the top

  1. Cedar

Incense Cedar is a great wood for building exterior shutters and for use in other exterior construction. The wood resists decay, requires little maintenance, finishes well, and the aroma deters bugs. It is a solid wood similar to Western Red Cedar with mostly light grain that sands and finishes well. See more about solid cedar exterior shutters.

  2. Alternate Woods

We only sell solid incense cedar exterior shutters and do not offer alternative woods.

  3. MDF raised panels

Medium-Density Fibreboard is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down wood residuals into wood fibers and compacting them into panels. It is consistent in size and will not radically shrink or expand with seasonal temperature change. MDF raised panels are not stainable. Extira MDF raised panels are used in the construction of our raised panel shutters and combination shutters.

Installation back to the top

  1. Functional

The method of installation for functional shutters (swing open and closed) begins with selection of shutter hardware. Then measure for exterior shutters.

  2. Non-functional

Installation for non-functional exterior shutters (do not swing open and closed) requires attaching the shutters to the building just to the outside of the window opening. Attach with long exterior grade screws or bolts with a spacer between the shutter and building.

Hardware back to the top

  1. Hinges, Pulls, Dogs

ShutterLand does not sell exterior shutter hardware.

We refer our customers to House of Antique Hardware for exterior shutter hardware.

  2. Shutter Caps

Shutter caps are included with every shutter panel ordered.

A shutter cap is a protective inverted U-shaped cover that fits over the top edge of an exterior shutter to protect against moisture damage. It extends the width of the shutter panel and can be painted the same color as shutters. ShutterLand shutter caps are made of bonderized (corrosion-prevention coat) galvanized steel.

Additional shutter caps may be ordered by current or past customers.
